Planning is Half the Fun

Here we come again, Texas! Glenn and I are busy planning our upcoming trip to the Lone Star State. We always try to plan a little something new along with all of our old favorite haunts and this year we're planning a side trip to Louisiana. We're flying into Houston for a day with Glenn's sister, Jo Anne, and family, then we'll drive to the thriving metropolis of Cheneyville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana where we will spend the night in an old plantation-turned-Bed & Breakfast. Loyd Hall is still a working farm in the middle of nothing but farmlands for miles and miles.

Cheneyville is a genealogy spot for me, the place my great grand aunt, Fannie Pollard, lived and raised her family. Fannie married Linn Tanner whose family was large and well known in the Cheneyville area, so there should be opportunities to see family homes and graves we hope. Linn, who was a writer and teacher throughout his life, was also a bugler in the Civil War and kept a diary that was later published, so we will also head to the genealogy library in Alexandria while we are in the area. Then we will head back to Houston to fly down to Corpus Christi and spend the remaining time in our favorite Texas spot, Fulton Harbor. Lots of family time and plenty of plain old down time on the Gulf Coast beaches are what we are looking forward to. Can't wait!
