Vacationing in "your own backyard" can be surprisingly delightful as this one-night getaway at Lake Crescent Lodge on the Olympic Peninsula with good friends, Nile and Marilee, proved to be. The lodge is rustic and beautiful and the lake as pristine as they come, reminiscent of an alpine fjord. A long walk through old growth forest, wine and appetizers on the beach, a white table cloth dinner in the lodge restaurant, sunrise on the lake, a little shopping at the gift shop, and a latte by the giant fireplace were just some of the things we enjoyed together. Definitely coming back, in fact, we already have one of the beach cottages reserved for June 2014!

Your great photos bring it all back so vividly, thanks! You're right---people travel from far away to see and be in all this beauty, and so, we should get out more often on day-trips like this one and be tourists in our own lovely state...Hood Canal, San Juan Islands, Mt. Rainier, North Cascades, Leavenworth, Cape Disappointment, Columbia Gorge, Lake Chelan, and so much more.
We have Marilee to thank for finding this place. It caught her fancy and now we are hooked :-)
