Cousin Carwyn's Place

On our trip back to Whakatane from Hamilton, we visited Tarnya's cousin, Carwyn, and his fiance', Toni. We were treated to a tour of the expansive home and farm they have recently purchased. In addition to Kiwi vines, there are olive and avocado trees, a couple of black bulls, three beautiful sheep and several chickens. It's a lovely place!

So whimsical and simply lovely.

It was someone's birthday party, and several kids took a dip in the pool. Tarnya took a few cuttings of air plants for her own yard. "Stick them anywhere, and they'll just grow," she says. They don't root in the ground; in fact, I'm not sure they root into or onto anything. They simply thrive on mist in the air...look it up!

I know about those plants! And yes, no dirt, simply air. Pretty crazy, eh? Some people put them in emptied out lightbulbs and hang them in varying heights thus creating a strange looking sculpture like thing. Green leaves out the top, and roots curling within the bulb...again, crazy!
