Weekend Jaunt: San Juan Island

San Juan Island was spectacularly beautiful this weekend with picture-book weather. My photos don't begin to tell the story, but here are the few that made the cut (I got carried away taking pictures of my grandson instead.) The eagle put on quite a show... too bad my vantage point (peek-a-boo view through the trees) was not the best for catching it with the camera.

Horsetail... so lovely when it's not in the flower bed!

Dahlias in formal garden at "English Camp National Park"

Honeybee buried in Verbena.

Bald Eagle on the sunny rocks off Pear Point. I snapped many a picture of this beautiful eagle, but this is the only one even close to being decent.

Sunset on Waikiki

Crowds gathered all along the beach to watch the sunset, but flip flops, traffic and voices faded as I looked out at the setting sun. Me, the ocean, the sky, the horizon, the gentle waves lapping on the shore. Would there be an emerald flash of light as the sun dipped out of sight? Yes, it was there... an instant of wonder and mystery.
